Apple won’t wait until next year for some Siri improvements
Reports suggest that Siri itself will still get natural language updates and other key features before the year is out.

By making a deal with a company like OpenAI, which has been the source of a string of tech controversies recently, it’s understandable that some people don’t understand why Apple made the call & what it might entail for the privacy of their on-device data
Redmond is using the word ‘retired’ very much as a Blade Runner might, with respect to a replicant.
“Apple is integrating ChatGPT into experiences within iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, allowing users to access ChatGPT’s capabilities – including image and document understanding – without needing to jump between tools.”
“Apple Intelligence is deeply integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. It harnesses the power of Apple silicon to understand and create language and images, take action across apps, and draw from personal context to simplify and accelerate everyday tasks.”
Many of Apple’s generative AI models can run entirely on a device powered by an A17+ or M-series chips, eliminating the risk of sending your personal data to a remote server.
Apple debuted “Apple Intelligence,” a new suite of free AI-powered features for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia that includes creating email summaries, generating images and emoji, and allowing Siri to take actions on your behalf.
The feature supports the translation of Spanish into English as well as the translation of English to German, Hindi, Italian, Russian, and Spanish.
You can always turn off saving snapshots at any time by going to Settings> Privacy & security > Recall & snapshots on your PC. You can also pause snapshots temporarily by selecting the Recall icon in the system tray on your PC.
Small models can be used to power AI features on devices like phones and laptops without the need to take up too much computer memory.
These Copilot agents will be triggered by certain events and work with a business’s own data.
Its NPU is capable of performing over 40 tera operations per second (TOPS) — a far cry from the 10 NPU TOPS offered with the Meteor Lake chips included in a range of AI PCs that are already available, and enough to qualify as a ‘Copilot+’ PC.
The biggest new requirement, and the blocker for virtually every Windows PC in use today, will be for an integrated neural processing unit, or NPU. Microsoft requires an NPU with performance rated at 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS).
The scope of Recall, which Microsoft has internally called AI Explorer, is incredibly vast — it includes logging things you do in apps, tracking communications in live meetings, remembering all websites you’ve visited for research, and more.
“Recall uses Copilot+ PC advanced processing capabilities to take images of your active screen every few seconds,” Microsoft says on its website.
The official announcement: “Copilot+ PCs leverage powerful processors and multiple state-of-the-art AI models, including several of Microsoft’s world-class SLMs, to unlock a new set of experiences you can run locally, directly on the device.”
One of the flagship features it’ll power is “Recall,” which is supposed to use AI to create a searchable “photographic memory” of everything you’ve done and seen on your PC.
About half (52 percent) of those who use AI are reluctant to admit that they’ve used it for important tasks. And slightly more (53 percent) say that if they do use it on work tasks it makes them look replaceable.
The upgrade of over a billion Windows 10 desktops to Copilot integration has well and truly begun!
A rumored AI Explorer feature coming to Windows 11 is designed to work as a timeline you can summon on your PC. Microsoft describes this internally as a feature that lets you “retrieve anything you’ve ever seen or done on your device.”
At the World Economic Forum meeting at Davos last week, DeepMind co-founder Suleyman said he thinks AI tech will soon reach the point where it could dream up a company, project-manage it, and successfully sell products.
ChatGPT is a language engine, not a knowledge engine. That means it’s at its best when you ask for words, phrases, analogies, explanations, or examples.
Starting today, when you point your camera (or upload a photo or screenshot) and ask a question using the Google app, the new multisearch experience will show results with AI-powered insights that go beyond just visual matches.
Industries led by media and entertainment, banking, insurance, and logistics were most likely to predict job losses because of cutting-edge AI tools, according to the poll of top directors conducted by PwC ahead of this week’s World Economic Forum.
A new Copilot key will ship on a variety of new PCs and laptops from Microsoft’s partners, providing quick access to Microsoft’s AI-powered Windows Copilot experience straight from a keyboard button press.
“We are just at the beginning of this transition right now. This is an exciting and confusing time, and if you haven’t figured out how to make the best use of AI yet, you are not alone.”
Three-quarters of the business uses of generative ai will fall into four areas: customer operations, marketing and sales, software engineering, and research and development. Navigating a complex tax code or summarising a legal document could become a breeze.
